THE ASOG SCHOLARSHIP
A Merit-Based Scholarship
The ASOG Scholarship is a merit-based fund designed to support deserving auto professionals within our community. The goal is to support exemplary owners and technicians with an all-expenses-paid visit to the annual VISION Hi-Tech Training and Expo or Automotive Service and Technology Expo (ASTE).
With ASOG, auto shop owners can receive vital annual training without draining their own pocketbooks or shop funds. Then, they can better lead their communities and drive the automotive industry forward — one service at a time.
Our Scholarship History
ASOG was established in 2015 to become a meaningful resource. Today, the organization has become a 501c3 supporting auto shop owners with all-expenses-paid scholarships.
It all began with ASOG’s founder Scott Pelava, the President of Lonsdale Auto Works. After visiting the VISION Hi-Tech Training and Expo with his wife, he was blown away by the level of camaraderie and wanted more shop owners to have the same experience.
Scott and a few members of the ASOG community decided to get together for a fundraising dinner. Starting with a humble 30 members and a local restaurant, the group started to raise money for a scholarship aimed at supporting other shop owners.
It didn’t take long for industry leader Rick White to catch wind of the effort, generously donating money of his own to grow the scholarship even more. It didn’t take long for others in the industry to follow suit. Within months, the entire dinner was sponsored by generous benefactors and the rapidly growing number of ASOG members.
The money collected from this special dinner was used to fund a scholarship — one designed to sponsor a shop owner who couldn’t afford to attend the VISION Expo. With a smashing success and lots of additional support, ASOG determined to expand its offering to include the Automotive Service and Technology Expo (ASTE) as well.
And the rest, as they say, is history.

Annual training and horizontal networking are some of the most important things you could do as a shop owner. However, not every auto mechanic has the opportunity to make the trip — even if they want to do so.
ASOG seeks to eliminate this discrepancy with a scholarship fund for deserving members of the community. By gathering funds through donations, fundraisers, and annual dinners, we sponsor a group of outstanding individuals deserving a chance to rub elbows with the who’s who of the industry.
